Famlink Adoption Services was founded in 2005 by Sheri DeHaan
and Jerry Bonnema in an effort to meet the needs of adoptive families.
Being experienced clinicians and adoptive parents, Jerry and Sheri
thought that the Michigan adoptive community deserved more…more
choice in assessments, more availability in counseling, more services
tailored to the needs of this growing population. That is why Famlink
was formed…to provide parents with a positive adoption experience.
In this way, Jerry and Sheri hope to increase adoptions in Michigan
by placing children in loving homes and growing families, as they
have done themselves.
With over 30 years of combined clinical experience serving children
and their families, Jerry and Sheri bring many skills to the Famlink
practice:
- Sound clinical judgment
- Thorough assessment abilities
- Prompt and effective communication
- Positive relations with client families
- Compassionate counseling
- Comprehensive educational components
- Community support connections
- Utilization of technology to assist families and increase
the efficiency of the adoption process
Jerry Bonnema
Jerry obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Calvin
College and a Master of Social Work degree from Wayne State University.
Jerry has extensive experience working for child placing agencies,
including Teen Ranch Foster Care, Bethany Christian Services,
Wedgwood Christian Services, Pine Rest Christian Mental Health
Services, and Adoption Advocates. Jerry's career has always focused
on thorough clinical assessments working with families and children.
Following the adoption of his own child from China, Jerry knew that he wanted to use his assessment skills to help others in their adoptive journeys,
Sheri DeHaan
Sheri obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Calvin
College and a master's degree in school and community counseling
from Michigan State University. Sheri has been employed as both
an educator and a clinician, working at Alameda Christian School,
Holland Christian School, Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services,
and as a school counselor and teacher at Cutlerville Christian
School. Sheri's focus has always been on improving the life, education,
and functioning of children. Following the adoption of her child
from Korea, Sheri desired to help others experience the connection
and love of adoption.
As adoptive parents themselves, Jerry and Sheri are attuned to
the unique needs of adoptive families. They understand the process,
the fears and worries, and the answers to the questions most adoptive
families have. Jerry and Sheri have been there themselves and can
help other families along this journey.
